Ride to Vote!

This just in today from the good folks at Ride To Work Day, Inc.:

Press Release: For immediate publication
Date: 10/29/08
Subject: Ride to Vote

On Election Day (Tuesday, November 4th 2008), make your vote count in the polling booth and on the road - by riding your motorcycle or scooter to vote!

No matter which candidates, propositions and issues you support, please help demonstrate that motorcycle and scooter riding is an important part of our world’s mobility landscape. Ride to your polling place, park near the entrance, and wear your riding gear when you cast your ballot. Let the other voters see you as a rider! Election day is a great day to let everyone know you “Ride to Vote, and Vote to Ride”! So record your vote, and let your riding actions be seen. And spread the word with ‘I Rode’ and ‘Vote to Ride’ stickers:
Download “Ride to Vote” Stickers and buttons here: www.ridetowork.org/signs-posters-cards-propaganda-art

Print (on adhesive paper) these “I rode to vote” stickers/buttons. Wear yours to work, and wherever you go during the rest of the day. If anyone asks you about your “Ride to Vote” sticker, remind them that riding is a good solution to many social, urban mobility and environmental issues.

Spread the message and encourage others to join the “Ride to Vote” effort this year. And please pass this email on to other riders – to help encourage “Ride to Vote”! rides. By riding everywhere on Election Day, you make a statement about the value and importance of motorcycle and scooter riding.

West Virginia Seeks Twisty-Tourers!

"It’s nearly impossible to find a straight road here" is the slogan West Virginia's Division of Tourism is using to attract motorcyclists to the heart of Appalachia. Click on over to West Virginny's website "WV Mountainrider" for pre-planned ride maps, event, safety and trip planning information.  Every state would do well to follow suit. WV obviously realizes that motorcyclists bring huge amounts of money to an area's businesses (and generates big tax revenues).

Aerostich Recalls Flourescent Hi-Viz Roadcrafter & Darien

Aerostich has issued a recall of its Roadcrafter and Darien products in "fluorescent high-viz lime yellow" sold between August 1, 2007 and September 1, 2008 due to excess fading.  In so doing, Aerostich has taken the extraordinary measure of notifying owners of those products by mail.  Although the fading doesn't affect the strength or durability of the material, owners are nonetheless given the option of returning the garment for a new replacement garment in the "old" Hi-Viz or in any other color, or for a full refund. Aerostich even has a plan in place to enable owners to retain their current garmet until the replacement arrives!  Aerostich says that the replacement Hi-Viz color garments use a more fade resistant material and are similar to the color used in Hi-Viz garments produced between 1998 and 2006. Swatches of the replacement and discontinued versions of the Hi-Viz are included in the letters sent to owners.  The manner in which Aerostich is handling this situation solidifies its position as one of the very best vendors/manufacturers of motorcycle products.  Full information can be found on Aerostich's website here.

Marsee Corona-mount Tank Bags

Marsee makes a series of nifty tank bags that go on and off with a simple half-twist. This trick is made possible by a mounting ring (the "Corona mount") attached to the gas tank filler cap mount. This makes the bag as handy as a magnetic mount, but as the bag never touches the tank the chances of scratching are almost nil. Unfortunately, unless you've got a Triumph, Ducati or BMW you're out of luck. However, I recently received a notice (below) from Marsee that indicates that the rest of us may be in luck soon.
Our R&D department is currently working to develop Corona mounts for Kawasaki and other Japanese motorcycles. These bags will be available for the beginning of the 2009 riding season.
